Didn't eat the soup.
Didn't eat the main dish.
Just ate the takikomi rice and the dango wrapped in that leaf.
Not a good meal.

What's With The Bones?
Passed on the salad.
Nibbled at the soup.
Ate the rice.
Did my best to avoid the numerous (dangerous!) bones that came with the fish.

(Note: I won't be posting tomorrow, since we will be out doing the annual "waraji" hike. Furthermore, Friday is a holiday, so I won't be posting then, either. We do have school on Saturday, however, so that's when you will see my next post.)

An All New Potato Salad
Nibbled at the main dish. Actually had seconds of both the soup and the salad! (Yes, that's a potato in the salad, putting a new spin on "potato salad.")

Hungry Meal
Ate the little fishies. Passed on the other stuff on that plate. Ate the bowl of "wet" rice, but could have used a spoon for easier consumption.
This is the monthly meal that is pretty skimpy, to make us appreciate the fact that we have plenty of food to eat.
Oddly enough, however, you are allowed to get seconds.

Can't Really Go Wrong With Curry
Happy with the curry with chunks of fish (skipjack tuna) and even had seconds. Not so happy with the salad. They ran out of the regular dessert, which was grapes, so I scored an even better dessert.

Big Bowl For Little Salad
Not a good salad. Why did you have to fry the fish? Lucky for me, there was some sesame dressing left, which is a rarity.

Not Good
I don't like most beans, because they give me gas...
I passed on the salad and just nibbled at the soup.
Not a good lunch.

When To Take Rice
Soup: Inedible. Salad: Inedible. Broccoli: Not very good. Gave away one of the two pieces of fried chicken.
Now you know why I took some rice.

What's With The Ham?
I actually liked the soup, but what's with the ham?
The salad wasn't too bad, but what's with the ham?
The fish was OK, but awfully lonely on that big plate!

A No-Chopsticks Meal
Bread is always a positive.
My favorite dressing, the sesame dressing, was also surprisingly still available for my cabbage (there's almost always none left by the time I get to the cafeteria).
The hamburger was OK. The soup was not so great, especially because of the ham.
Dessert is always a bonus, even if it's fruit.
What you don't see here is that 99% of the students and faculty use both a spoon (for the soup) and chopsticks (for the salad and meat) when having this meal.
That is also a waste. Everyone should just use either a spoon or chopsticks. Get it with it, folks!

You Call This Food?
The salad was not good.
The soup was not good.
The main dish was barely edible.
I should have taken some rice.

Dessert Saves The Day
I definitely prefer bread to rice. The salad was pretty good. The main dish was not bad, but what's with the wieners? The dessert was delicious!
This was a family meal, easily identified by the fact that it includes both bread and dessert.
That milk on my tray is also a dead giveaway that this is a family meal, since whenever there's such a meal, my food is brought to me by a member of my "family," who obviously doesn't know that I don't like regular milk.
The last clue that I did not serve myself is the plate that the bread is on. You see, when we are served such bread, 99% of the students and faculty place it on a plate, since the food staff puts plates out specifically for that purpose. Since the plates are used, even barely, they have to be washed, which is a complete waste of water, energy, and manpower. Too bad only a few of us have chosen to stop using the plates.
I should try to get everyone to stop using those plates, huh?

Why Can't We Have This Every Day?
This was the first meal of the school year that was prepared by the kitchen staff.
I guess they were able to afford better ingredients than normal, since they only had to make enough for the faculty and staff. If only the students would stay on vacation forever! :-)
I had seconds of just about everything and I can honestly say that the tofu actually had flavor.
Despite the fact that this was a nice meal, I think serving such a meal to us should be a crime, because the rest of the year we are left to suffer with much worse food.
